TSM Outfit Post: Summer in Regent’s Park – Reiss White Char Flare Skirt

The sole purpose of this post is to prove to you that Summer exists in London. As I bask in the sun’s warmth, it’s so easy to forget those wet and dreary months I cursed under my breath that eclipsed the city for the majority of the year. Any and every spare patch of green (we’re talking random leaves, fake lawns, gardens and parks) becomes immediately occupied by girls in bikinis, topless men, families and pets and everyone happily discusses the current heatwave (i.e anything above 20 degrees Celsius). The image strikes you as strange the first Summer you’re here in London but you think nothing of it when you find yourself joining in and forgetting that unlike Melbourne, the closest beach is hours away. I’m going to miss packing my kindle, towel and picnic for a snooze and leisurely read in the park.

London has an abundance of beautiful parks with Regent’s park being one of my favourites. We watched an outdoor performance of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice by sunset this Summer which was magical and when the Gardens are in full bloom, the view and vibe is breathtaking. What I love about a park the most is the people watching behind my sunglasses…

I realise reading back on a post in June, I didn’t get around to sharing with you my Summer bargains! I waited patiently for this Reiss skirt to go on sale and hunted every store until I found my size (trust me, in London, there are just as many crazy same sized shopaholics as me). The fit and flare of this structured Reiss skirt is flattering on all body shapes as it helps creates an hourglass shape on your bottom half no matter how large or petite you are. Even if you are conscious of your bottom half, the way the skirt is cut, it skims the largest part of your bottom. I bought this skirt in blue for one of my clients who is a couple of sizes larger than me and in my opinion it looks better on her than me! The skirt is an elegant and modest length but still maintains fun and flirty edge.

Oh and my most proud Summer sale purchase? A Mulberry bag at 60% off!! (Yes, this is why sales are so much better in Europe and I don’t want to leave.) My latest squeeze is this Oak Mulberry Brynn bag that was available in black, musk and oak tan. It is actually a remake of the traditional mens’ Brynn briefcase which is why I love it and the best part is that the larger size Brynn (which I bought) was made in mind to house an ipad and kindle. Perfect bag for the park and travelling.

TSM Shopping: Leaving London equals Shoe Armageddon

Packing. It has become the bane of my existence. I thought I’d be smart and pack months in advance (slow and steady like the tortoise in the race right?) but perhaps bubble wrapping two out 100 souvenirs and rewarding oneself with an instagram news feed refresh and nap was where I went wrong… Also, how on earth did I manage accumulate all this stuff AND fit it in this minute one bedroom studio for three years? It doesn’t matter how many full garbage bags I donate to charity or throw out, I still need more boxes to ship back to Melbourne. o.m.gee it’s about to get crowded down under.

Anyway so you’d think this would teach me to stop buying things unnecessarily right? Wrong. I’m about to leave this shopping Mecca that is London and you know, basically no other city will sell shoes (or clothes for that matter) so stockpile like the shoemakers are going on strike. It’s shoe Armageddon and in the space of 3 weekends, I’ve purchased more shoes than I want to admit… here are a just few (just in case my bf reads this eeek!)

senso qimats

These are the Senso Qimat boots which have been out for a while and I’ve finally been able to get my hands on a pair here in London which works out to be cheaper than from ordering them in Aus even though Senso is an Australian brand! Go the GBP (for now while I’m still working). I bought these in a 36 but truthfully I probably should have gone for the 37. The leather is really soft and I can tell it’s a good quality shoe but I will need to wear in the leather as it’s a little small for me.

I purchased mine here which worked out to be cheaper (and no import taxes) but you can also order from the Australian online boutique or here too.topshop gladitor heels

No I didn’t buy lopsided shoes, I just forgot to flip up the leather flap on my right foot. Oppsies. I walked into Topshop to stock up on jeans (because yes they don’t sell jeans at all in Melbourne) and came out with a pair of heels. Sigh. But as soon as I put these on, I knew they were a comfy pair that I would wear quite easily with jeans and dresses so I debated bewteen the dark green and black for a good 30 mins before opting for the more sensible boring black route. Secretly I wanted the tan ones but I have a pair from topshop already that are too similar.

Topshop Fringe Rescue Sandals

topshop-tan-rescue-fringe-sandals-White Leather converse sneakers and alexa mulberry

I have always wanted a pair of chucks in white for casual wear and now that my Asics tigers are well worn out (off to the charity bin – actually is that wrong to donate to charity if they are semi worn out? Hmmm) I took the plunge. I’m loving the look of the sneakers (mine are white leather as opposed to the usual white fabric ones) but I’m quite surprised that you need to wear these sneakers in … Perhaps I have over-sensitive feet or my feet are PMS-g but who would have thought. Still love them though and quite affordable for £50! isabel marant bluebell sneakers

Oh hmm yes and then somehow this happened?! Been wanting to give these Isabel Marant sneakers are trial for a while, even though I wasn’t quite sure if they were my style but the thought of travelling with a comfy pair of sneakers with an in built wedge did appeal to my insecurity about my height and laziness to wear heels so I bit the bullet and tried on this season’s new Bluebell Isabel Marants. They are super comfy as are my dicker boots so the shoes proposed and I said yes. I think I would have preferred the Isabel Marant Blossoms (with the pony hair finish for a sleeker look) but they were much dearer and I was already feeling guilty. I purcahsed mine from Harvey Nichols and since I’ll be leaving the UK I’ll be able to get VAT back too :)

Anyway I really should get back to the packing .. or maybe I should peruse the Jimmy Choo online website … JK back to packing I go

Have a great weekend guys and thanks for reading

TSM Answered: What are the top 10 Must Have Handbags ?

Anonymous Asked:

Hi Tien, can you do a post on the top 10 (or more) ‘must-have’
handbags?

T-Styled Me Answered:

“You have one bag, you put all your crap in it, why do you need more?” said my bf once, twice, 100 times to me … then he realised I was a closet handbag monster and kind of, not really, gave up on trying to understand. In answering your question, I truly believe there’s no such thing as a ‘must have’ handbag. Sure there are highly coveted, popularly blogarised and celebrity endorsed purses that we love, but it’s important to remember that bags don’t need to have a designer name to make or break an outfit and bags should be fun and fitting to an individual’s likes, lifestyle and budget.

Now, if you were to ask me another question like, say, ‘What are your top 10 favourite handbags on an unlimited budget without any associated feelings of spulrger’s guilt,’ then this is what my wishlist would look like 😛

1. A classic handbag e.g The Chanel Classic

Why? It’s iconic, luxurious, timeless, appreciates in value, makes you feel oh so special and it’s classy (with the right outfit that is). I love that there are different sizes, styles and colours that can work to fit your own style and personality.

2. A Good shoulder, cross body bag like the Proenza Schouler PS11

KATE BECKINSALE in Los Angeles

3. A slightly oversized ‘Fit everything in your life’ type bag. E.g the Celine Phantom

4. A multi-functional bag e.g Celine trio which separates into a clutch

5. A casual yet stylish bag for travelling and everyday errands. I think Balenciagas make great travel bags personally!

6. Practical everyday work bag – Like my very overused Mulberry Alexa

7. A tote for travel, work, nappies or the beach E.g Longchamp Pliage

8. A structured alternative bag for work E.g The Givency Antigona

9. A timeless clutch for those special evenings out E.g A YSL Clutch

10. A funky coloured fun bag like the Philip Lim Pashli

Photos: Internet (Pinterest) and some are mine

Right, so back to reality … Designer bags are beautiful but they come with hefty price tags. I think if you have means to be spoilt with a couple then that’s wonderful but I also think reasonable priced handbags make just as stylish accessories that can sometimes look rarer than a coveted designer brand bag!

T-Styled Me tips for buying handbags

(a) Stick to your budget (b) Make sure the quality is reputable and it’s practical enough to use and (c) Have fun expressing yourself trough handbags! Try maintaining a variety of colours, styles and designers in your collection to get the maximum looks out of your outfits.

TSM Outift Post: Falling in love with London and Louboutins

I never really believed it, but it really is possible to fall in love with a city and I know this because I get a bit choked up inside thinking and admitting that after three and a half wonderful years in London, I’ll be leaving soon to head back home to Melbourne. I convinced myself that if I don’t admit it on my blog and continue not to discuss it with close friends here, it’s not really happening (classic case of denial!). Whilst I very much looking forward to spending more quality time with my loved ones and re-discovering Melbourne through new eyes, I’m also left with other peculiar feelings such as anxiety, sadness, excitement and fear which hopefully are normal emotions for someone in my situation?!

In preparation to leave, I have learnt three things over the past few months: 1) I need to check myself into ‘hoarders anonymous’ 2) the decision to move half-way across the world has provided me with some of the best experiences and memories of my life so far and 3) how lucky I am to be able to see walk by these historic and strikingly beautiful landmarks each and every day … Tower Bridge is one of my favourites and is only a 10 minute walk from my home.

Celine trio bag clutch in red christian Louboutin pigalle

Celine Trio Magenta red Christian Louboutin Heels PiagelleThese are my trusty comfortable distressed boyfriend jeans that I’ve mentioned work well on most body shapes and can easily be dressed up with a simple pair of heels. You’ll remember that these were a travelling staple of mine from my Tuscany trip styled more casually and were inspired by a reader who wanted advice on how to wear boyfriend jeans.

zara distressed boyfriend jeans how to wear boyfriend jeans

Celine Trio Hermes Orange H Bracelet clac

It really does take time to find the right pair and I probably tried on at least 5 before I found these which were affordable and comfortable with just the right hint of ‘ventilation.’ You know you can always find an old pair and jeans and experiment with distressing it yourself (DIY) 😛

Now let’s talk about another love affair. The one most women may or may not admit to having with Christian Louboutin heels. Maybe like me, you’ve always wondered whether these Christian Louboutins are really worth all the hype and more importantly the money (first post here). To be honest, I find only a select few CL designs fit to my taste but if there is one thing that Christian Louboutins do and do very well, is make you feel like a million bucks. It’s not just about the signature red sole, but it’s a combination of the low cut sides, shape and heel design of this particular heel which makes your foot feel and look sexy. Christian Louboutins are known for being made to enhance and celebrate a woman’s femininity and walk. I’m really not explaining myself very well here but there is definitely a sense of confidence, however fake, I get from doning and strutting around in a pair of these Christian Louboutins. Whether I can last in them for more than an hour, that’s a different story #weak

This design is the Christian Louboutin Pigalle in patent black and is available in three heel heights: 8.5cm (85) (better for everyday wear), 10cm (100) and the very sexy 12cms (120). I’m wearing the 100s which is just at the height of my comfortability threshold. I’m at awe at those who can trot around in the 120s on and off camera!BCBGMAXARIA lace top

St Paul’s Cathedral and West Minster Abbey are also other favourite landmarks of mine.

TSM Recommends: Aldo Black Ankle Cham Boots

Hi Guys! Just a quick hellowww … Hope you had a great weekend. Mine was pretty good, except for the fact that it was too short but that seems to be the trend these days… What is up with that?

I know not all of you read my tumblr and I’ve had a few more questions come through about the black boots that I’m wearing in this post here so I thought I’d provide a quick update to let you know I popped back into an Aldo store on the weekend and they are back in stock this season and in a variety of colours too!

Aldo Cham Ankle Boots

Aldo Cham ankle boots with gold hardware

Unfortunately for my Aussie readers, Aldo in Europe doesn’t ship to Australia but I did a bit of research and found a similar pair available online that is in a very similar design at the iconic and may I add, it’s a little cheaper too! I can’t speak for the quality of this one but I do know the one from Aldo is made from leather and a really comfortable height.

If anyone uses Amazon.com I surprisingly found the boots on here too.

T-Styled Me Tip …

For that extra bit of comfort, add insoles! They make the world of difference and I bought a pair from Primark and Topshop which had a sticky backing and slipped right into the shoe. They certainly help with the comfort factor when I’m late and running for the bus!

TSM Answered: Packing clothing essentials for College

Anonymous Asked

Hi T, I hope everything is well :) Your blog is such an inspiration for me! I was wondering if you had any tips for a college student who is packing for school. What are the essential clothing pieces? Something versatile would be the best!Thank you!!

T-Styled Me Answered

Hi! I’ve always wondered what it would be like to go away for ‘college’ like they do in the movies and on Greek. Having gone to university in my own hometown of Melbourne, I commuted every day and didn’t need to live on campus. I envy the experience you’re about to have (Will you be joining a sorority, play beer pong and go to band camp? JK) but I for one am glad the days of study groups, tutorials, group assignments and cramming for exams are over!

I’m not familiar with how much you’d need to pack and for how long but I’d suggest the ratio be: 80% for casual 10% evening wear and 10% accessories and shoes. Dress comfortably and stay true to your style. My recommendations below are for items that can be mixed and matched in different categories to help you create multiple outfits.

Bottoms

  • Jeans/trousers: You’ll want at least two pairs of jeans with you: One for casual everyday wear for classes that you can alternate with say a darker pair that can be dressed up in the evenings.
  • Shorts: Whether denim or leather, wear them to class in the warmer months on their own and over tights and sneakers in the fall.
  • Flippy skirt: Have a fun floral skirt that can be layered in the cooler months with tights and boots but one which you can dress up for a night out with the girls.

T-Styled Me what to wear to college bottoms

 1. Topshop Moto Bleach Acid Leigh Jeans 2. J Brand 915 Super Skinny Legging Jeans 3. ASOS Vintage Wash Denim Shorts 4. Atmos&Here Black faux leather shorts 5. Zara Printed Skirt with ruffles

Tops

  • Tees: I’d suggest plenty of comfy t-shirts to wear at College. Take a few neutral coloured ones and add some with patterns and graphics to the mix as well. Long and short sleeve for layering is ideal.
  • Shirts: A couple of shirts in a variety of patterns would be useful to mix. A chambray shirt would be perfect for a college with your jeans if you’re more a girly girl then a floral or patterned chiffon shirt would also go well with shorts.
  • Wool long sleeved knits: Pack a few sweaters and cardigans that you can layer on top of your shirts and tees to keep you warm. I myself am addicted to cardigans!

T-Styled Me what to wear to college tops

1. T by Alexander Wang Muscle T-shirt in black 2. Tibi wool 3/4 Sleeve Pullover 3. Topshop Moto Blue Oxford Denim Shirt 4. Equipment Reece clean blouse 5. Brian Lichtenberg Feline T-shirt 6. All Saints Silk Biker T-shirt 7. Zara Check shirt

Outerwear

  • Parkas: A casual jacket or parkas with detachable hood is a great look to have on campus for any casual outfit. Parkas a removable warmer lining will prove to be versatile for the impending cooler conditions.
  • Leather Jacket: Whether it be faux or real, a leather jacket is a sure way of dressing up your outfit on or off campus. Choose one that would suit both!
  • Pea coat/Blazer: If the weather is set to be a lot cooler, I’d bring a wool coat that you can keep in your closet in the event of an unexpected cold weather.
T-Styled Me what to wear to college outerwear

1. ASOS Parka 2. All Saints Leather Jacket 3. Zara Linen Jacket 4. Topshop Full Trim Borg Parka 5. Burberry Coat

Dresses

  • Summer dress with sleeves that you can wear when it’s still warm and then layer with tights and your leather jacket for Fall.
  • A tunic or long sleeved easy to throw on dress that you can quickly pop on when there’s no time for coordinating an outfit.
  • A cocktail dress or two for any on-campus functions and special dates you might have 😛
T-Styled Me what to wear to college dresses
Shoes and Accessories
  • Shoes: Pack shoes that are comfortable enough to carry you across campus e.g sneakers, loafers/ballet flats, some ankle/long flat boots and a pair of heels to wear out.
  • Accessories: Scarves, hats, jewellery that you can mix and match with different outfits are essential. This is where your personality can really shine through so have some fun!
  • Bags: If I did college over again, I’d invest in a smart leather backpack to help lug around all those notes and books. Pack a neutral colour bag that can be worn in class with ample space and a handbag / purse for a more polished look for a night out.
T-Styled Me what to wear to college accessories

1. Madewell Leather Rucksack 2. Converse All Star Ox Plimsolls 3. Midi Ring  4. Tory Burch 5. Topshop Pastel Flatop Sunglasse6. Topshop Beekeeper Felt Hat 7. Topshop Maye Suede Slippers 8. Alexander McQueen Skill Print chiffon scarf 9. Longchamp Le Pliage Large leather tote

I hope you found some inspiration from my hand-picked suggestions and good luck for this semester of college!

TSM Shopping Review: Isabel Marant Dicker Boots

Isabel Marant Taupe Dicker boots-2Hope you’re having a fabulous week so far! I realise that I’ve had my Isabel Marant Dicker boots (available here) for well over six months now and I still haven’t got around to posting a review on them.

I was after a pair of non black boots that were suitable to wear in Winter and with dresses in Summer and most importantly, of reasonable walking height so when I spotted these Isabel Marant boots, I instantly fell in love with the Suede finish and French designer’s subtle design. The online reviews were very favourable but the only downside was the hefty IM price tag. So after months of deciding (I asked every man and his dog what I should do) it came down to two pairs: The Isabel Marants or a similar styled pair in Topshop

Topshop arlene western Boot with side zip Arlene Western Zip Boots from Topshop

These Topshop ones were made from leather, came in a similar but not exact taupe colour, were reasonably comfortable and provided my desired look. Clearly they were the more economically viable choice right? Well … about that … You’ve seen the first picture so you know which path I went down in the end … I gave into my Suede shoes addiction, trusting all the online reviews and went on a mini-splurge, convinced the price would translate into quality. I also say mini splurge because I was lucky enough to locate a hardly-worn pre-loved pair on eBay in France in my size, woohoo! Ebay fate. Believe it.

If I had purchased the Topshop boots, would I have been happy? Yes, I think I would have but maybe the grass is greener on the other side. I gave into gut instinct and to this day, I don’t regret it at alI :) I love my Isabel Marant Dickers and have walked hours on end with them over London’s Winter and now into its Summer too…

These babies will be making an appearance in my next styling session post soon so stay tuned …!

TSM Shopping Review: Butterfly Twists – Folding Ballerina Flats

My hands are itching. The biannual sale season is almost upon us here in Europe. Yes, if there’s one thing no-one can deny it is the fact that sales are HUGE here and they are Awwwesome! (crazy shoppers, not so much). I wasn’t sure when the sales would start this “Summer” but after nosing around (chatting to sale assistants) it appears the preview sales start this weekend with the official start in a few weeks’ time. I’ve been itching to shop for a few months now but am holding back for the bargains. The beauty of shopping for clients is that you feel that temporary rush without having to feel guilty! I’m creating a focused list of sensible items to target when the time arrives so let the games begin! (I’m still convinced shopping is a sport).

Ever since I made the mistake of wearing heels on my birthday followed by a full day of shopping around London (birthday post here), I’ve been on the lookout for fold-up flats to throw in my handbag. If you live in Europe, unless you’re wearing a stacked heel or you’re superwoman, it is extremely difficult, to walk around efficiently in heels. There’s no boyfriend’s car to totter over to but instead, you’re greeted with steps upon steps leading to out of operation escalators to the train platforms and cobblestones oh cobblestones. So unless totally inebriated after a night out, my feet are always furious at me for putting them through a fashion instigated ordeal.

I finally stumbled upon the perfect pair of fold up ballerina flats while shopping for a client last weekend and wanted to share them with you all. Not sure if I’m the only one out there who can’t manage to walk around in heels in London but in the event that I’m not alone, there are these absolute God-sends by the name of Butterfly Twists that come in a surprisingly stylish range of colours and patterns.

Folding Ballerina flats butterfy TwistsButterfly Twist BallerinasOliva Palmero leopard flats Butterfly twists folding flats

The retail price varies depending on the design but I managed to pick mine up for £20 in the OFFICE concession store in Selfridges.

They’re designed in the UK but manufactured in China and I’m not too fussed about that because they are really just a back up for when my feet need relief from heels. I’ve worn them for a couple of hours (tested them out at dinner) which included walking to the tube and restaurant and my feet felt quite supported. Although I went half a size up for extra comfort, because my left foot is slightly larger than my right, the elastic band of heeled part of the shoe dug into my heel which irritated me a little towards the end of the night. I should have gone up a full size up in hindsight. Otherwise, I’d recommend them for your wallet/purse as they are really quite comfortable and compact.

Fold up flats Butterfly twists for your handbag

I’ve got the Cleo Ballerinas on here – snap taken while waiting for the tube to come.

Butterfly Twists are available in Office and other outlets within the UK but also deliver internationally. You can always check your local pharmacy/drugstore for similar alternatives.

Hope this post was helpful! I must admit, the fact that Oliva Palmero wears them may or may not have influenced me to purchase them. Damn those celebrity enablers!

My New Squeeze from Paris: The Celine Trio Bag in Magenta Red

You know how some guys are into their cars, computer games or others are obsessed with collecting the latest tech gadget and once they get their hands on it, getting their attention is harder than prying a smackos out of a dog’s mouth? Well, I was kind of like that this weekend with the newest handbag in my collection: My very first Celine! We’re currently in the honeymoon phase; I’ll admit I’m definitely the more clingy one in the relationship. But this kind of happens when you’ve been dreaming about having someone like this in your life: vibrant, photogenic, sentimental, practical and most of all, doesn’t give me headaches from heavy baggage (It also doesn’t hurt if they’re romantically French either!) We’ve been inseparable all weekend long… This is just a sneak peek for now as my trio will be surely making more appearances soon xx
