TSM Shopping: Leaving London equals Shoe Armageddon

Packing. It has become the bane of my existence. I thought I’d be smart and pack months in advance (slow and steady like the tortoise in the race right?) but perhaps bubble wrapping two out 100 souvenirs and rewarding oneself with an instagram news feed refresh and nap was where I went wrong… Also, how on earth did I manage accumulate all this stuff AND fit it in this minute one bedroom studio for three years? It doesn’t matter how many full garbage bags I donate to charity or throw out, I still need more boxes to ship back to Melbourne. o.m.gee it’s about to get crowded down under.

Anyway so you’d think this would teach me to stop buying things unnecessarily right? Wrong. I’m about to leave this shopping Mecca that is London and you know, basically no other city will sell shoes (or clothes for that matter) so stockpile like the shoemakers are going on strike. It’s shoe Armageddon and in the space of 3 weekends, I’ve purchased more shoes than I want to admit… here are a just few (just in case my bf reads this eeek!)

senso qimats

These are the Senso Qimat boots which have been out for a while and I’ve finally been able to get my hands on a pair here in London which works out to be cheaper than from ordering them in Aus even though Senso is an Australian brand! Go the GBP (for now while I’m still working). I bought these in a 36 but truthfully I probably should have gone for the 37. The leather is really soft and I can tell it’s a good quality shoe but I will need to wear in the leather as it’s a little small for me.

I purchased mine here which worked out to be cheaper (and no import taxes) but you can also order from the Australian online boutique or here too.topshop gladitor heels

No I didn’t buy lopsided shoes, I just forgot to flip up the leather flap on my right foot. Oppsies. I walked into Topshop to stock up on jeans (because yes they don’t sell jeans at all in Melbourne) and came out with a pair of heels. Sigh. But as soon as I put these on, I knew they were a comfy pair that I would wear quite easily with jeans and dresses so I debated bewteen the dark green and black for a good 30 mins before opting for the more sensible boring black route. Secretly I wanted the tan ones but I have a pair from topshop already that are too similar.

Topshop Fringe Rescue Sandals

I have always wanted a pair of chucks in white for casual wear and now that my Asics tigers are well worn out (off to the charity bin – actually is that wrong to donate to charity if they are semi worn out? Hmmm) I took the plunge. I’m loving the look of the sneakers (mine are white leather as opposed to the usual white fabric ones) but I’m quite surprised that you need to wear these sneakers in … Perhaps I have over-sensitive feet or my feet are PMS-g but who would have thought. Still love them though and quite affordable for £50! isabel marant bluebell sneakers

Oh hmm yes and then somehow this happened?! Been wanting to give these Isabel Marant sneakers are trial for a while, even though I wasn’t quite sure if they were my style but the thought of travelling with a comfy pair of sneakers with an in built wedge did appeal to my insecurity about my height and laziness to wear heels so I bit the bullet and tried on this season’s new Bluebell Isabel Marants. They are super comfy as are my dicker boots so the shoes proposed and I said yes. I think I would have preferred the Isabel Marant Blossoms (with the pony hair finish for a sleeker look) but they were much dearer and I was already feeling guilty. I purcahsed mine from Harvey Nichols and since I’ll be leaving the UK I’ll be able to get VAT back too :)

Anyway I really should get back to the packing .. or maybe I should peruse the Jimmy Choo online website … JK back to packing I go

Have a great weekend guys and thanks for reading

TSM Styling Session: A London Look for Elle in Isabel Marant Dicker Boots

Following from my last post (here) when my friend Elle saw the state of my Isabel Marant Dicker boots a few weeks ago, the first thing she admonished (hmm, I think I got that word from Fifty Shades of Grey, Yikes!) was that I didn’t take very good care of them. The soles were worn down and overdue for a resoling session. When she saw me carelessly throw a pair of Christian Louboutins onto my bed, she gave me yet another stern talking to. I must admit, I’m not too precious about my designer goods and tend to focus more on getting as much wear out of them as possible and neglect regular maintenance at the expense of longevity (RIP white lambskin Chanel shoes!). I’ll never be paranoid to the point where I hide my bags/shoes/clothes for fear of ruining them, but I have made much more of an increased effort to preserve the life of my goods recently.

Elle is much better at keeping her handbags and shoes in good condition and while she was here in London, she kindly obliged to letting me style her with a bit of a what I like to call a ‘London edge,’ using some pieces from my own wardrobe and some of her new London purchases. It was a lot of fun and reminded me of the days when we used to share our clothes with girlfriends to go clubbing :) So with all my styling posts, here’s a little bit more about Elle …

Elle’s Profile Stats

  • Elle’s Height:  Approx 5 ft 3” (1.6m)
  • Skin tone: Fair
  • Build: Very slim
  • Body shape: Boyish. Refer to this post if you need a reminder
  • General Clothing size: XS
  • Lifestyle: Social in all spheres, she’s busy blogging, shopping and is a very talented dancer! This lady has one big shopping addiction, I’d say 10 times worse than mine 😛
  • Shopping preference: Wants basis
  • Shopping frequency: Regular, every few weeks
  • Style Preference: Casual by day, glam by night
  • Personality (in three words): Smart, caring & fun (All in my opinion!)

Elle’s Styling criteria

No stranger to the blogging world herself, Elle of Mel&Elle had one condition for this styling session. I say condition, but she already had them glued to her feet and wasn’t getting out of them any time soon so we raided my closet for more goodies and I put together a London based look for her; something slightly edgier and not typical ‘Elle’ to commemorate her time in London before we brunched by the Thames.

If you’re follower of my blog you know that I highly recommend All Saints when it comes to leather jackets with an edge. The fit is incredible and the size range means that tiny ladies like Elle easily find a fitted look.

TSM Shopping Review: Isabel Marant Dicker Boots

Isabel Marant Taupe Dicker boots-2Hope you’re having a fabulous week so far! I realise that I’ve had my Isabel Marant Dicker boots (available here) for well over six months now and I still haven’t got around to posting a review on them.

I was after a pair of non black boots that were suitable to wear in Winter and with dresses in Summer and most importantly, of reasonable walking height so when I spotted these Isabel Marant boots, I instantly fell in love with the Suede finish and French designer’s subtle design. The online reviews were very favourable but the only downside was the hefty IM price tag. So after months of deciding (I asked every man and his dog what I should do) it came down to two pairs: The Isabel Marants or a similar styled pair in Topshop

These Topshop ones were made from leather, came in a similar but not exact taupe colour, were reasonably comfortable and provided my desired look. Clearly they were the more economically viable choice right? Well … about that … You’ve seen the first picture so you know which path I went down in the end … I gave into my Suede shoes addiction, trusting all the online reviews and went on a mini-splurge, convinced the price would translate into quality. I also say mini splurge because I was lucky enough to locate a hardly-worn pre-loved pair on eBay in France in my size, woohoo! Ebay fate. Believe it.

If I had purchased the Topshop boots, would I have been happy? Yes, I think I would have but maybe the grass is greener on the other side. I gave into gut instinct and to this day, I don’t regret it at alI :) I love my Isabel Marant Dickers and have walked hours on end with them over London’s Winter and now into its Summer too…
